Unicef Speaker

On Monday, December 10th, Holdrum Middle School alumni, Mr. Scott Karrel came to speak to our students about the inspirational work he does for an organization called UNICEF.

During his time here at HMS, he was a student of Mr. Gallucci, Ms. Fasano, Mr. O, and Mr. Cody as well as the Student Body President during his 8th grade year.  After he graduated in 2002 he went on to Pascack Valley. During his time at PV, he discovered his passion for humanitarian work while on a summer exchange program in Ghana. From there, he went on to study international relations at Boston University and spent a year living in Namibia, in southern Africa, as teacher. With the local community he started a non-profit organization called Unlock Foundation to provide a better learning environment for students in rural schools. Mr. Karrell now works at UNICEF USA, where he works with companies to help support UNICEF's life-saving work for children around the world.

Mr. Karrel’s journey and work exemplifies River Vale School’s portrait of a  graduate. Mr. Karrel is a fearless trailblazer, problem seeker and solution maker, global communicator and most of all a compassionate citizen.
