Holdrum Middle School
"Home of the Hawks"
October 2025
Dear Holdrum Middle School Parents,
As the vibrant colors of autumn begin to paint our campus with falling leaves, there's a distinct "fall feel" in the air, bringing with it a renewed energy. This time of year always brings a bustling atmosphere, and the next few months promise to be filled with many exciting events and happenings at HMS. We kicked off October with our annual Week of Respect and Red Ribbon Week, reinforcing the importance of positive character and healthy choices.
October also marks the beginning of our celebration of students who "soar like Hawks" by consistently modeling strong citizenship. Through their actions, words, and leadership within the school community, these students are recognized for demonstrating our monthly character theme. This month, we are specifically highlighting students who exemplify respect through their words, actions, and choices.
We extend a special thank you to the River Vale Police Department, who presented to our students at each grade level on the safe use of bicycles, e-bikes, and scooters. The safety of our students on these vehicles is paramount, especially during their commutes to and from school.
Our Fall sports teams are in the final stretch of their seasons. Girls' Volleyball, Girls' Soccer, and Boys' Soccer are all participating in their last few games, making a strong push for the playoffs.
Looking ahead, the Winter sports survey has been conducted, and coaches have held interest meetings. All necessary paperwork must be submitted by October 27 for review by the school nurse and district physician, with tryouts scheduled to begin at the start of November.
HMS will also be participating in a Fall Field Test of the new NJSLA-A assessment for the 2025-2026 school year. This field test, taking place on October 28-29, provides an excellent opportunity for our students to experience the new format of the state-mandated testing in the Spring. A special schedule for those days can be found later in this newsletter.
Yours in Education,
Mr. James P. Cody
Principal
