Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you are aware, this year all HMS students receive a Chromebook as part of the district’s technology initiative, in partnership with the River Vale Educational Fund. The focus of the Chromebook program at Holdrum Middle School is to prepare students for their futures in a world of digital technology and information. As we navigate the 21st century, excellence in education requires that technology, including access to the Internet, be readily available and seamlessly integrated throughout the educational program.
In order to protect our students and parent/guardians we are requiring that each student purchase a $30 Accidental Damage Protection from the manufacturer. An outline of what this protection includes is available on the Holdrum Middle School website. This protection will be payable via our online payment system. 6 Information about out online payment system can be found here.
All parents/guardians and students will be required to review and sign the HMS Chromebook Handbook on the Genesis Parent Portal prior to the start of the school year. You will receive an email notification when this form becomes available on the portal. This handbook outlines very important policies and procedures that all students must adhere to when using their Chromebooks, and can be found on the HMS website under the 1:1 Technology Initiative webpage.
With this great initiative comes responsibility. We encourage students to use their Chromebooks at home and other locations outside of school; however all students are bound by the policies and procedures in the Handbook and District AUP wherever they use their Chromebooks. Chromebooks should always be stored securely in locked lockers during physical education, assemblies, and extracurricular events. Students must have their Chromebooks charged and ready for learning every day.
This Chromebook will be used as an innovative tool to enhance the educational experience for our students. We are excited about the possibilities that this initiative affords our students inside and outside of the classroom.
Yours in education,
James P. Cody
