Board of Education

The River Vale Board of Education is comprised of seven, elected members of community. School Board members uphold all laws, rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, the New Jersey Department of Education, and New Jersey laws pertaining to schools.

The Board of Education does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that's the job of the Superintendent. Rather, the Board Members' responsibilities are to set the policies, goals and objectives for the district and it holds the Superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and achieving those goals. The Board is there to represent the needs of the students and school district and provide leadership, direction and oversight to ensure the public schools are effectively educating students and serving the needs of the community.

School Board members' key roles and responsibilities are:

  • Setting the vision and district goals

  • Approving budgets and allocating resources

  • Hiring and Evaluating the Superintendent

  • Adopting Policies

  • Curriculum and Standards Oversight

  • Community Representation

  • Ensuring Equity and Accountability
