October 2018

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

The school year started off extremely well! Students have acclimated to their new teachers, classes and schedules; and teachers have initiated their curriculums in a differentiated and rigorous format. Our laptop initiative has provided each student with a device each day at school and at night at home.

In a continued effort to broaden our lines of communication with parents and showcase some of the great things our students are doing at school, please be sure to follow Holdrum Middle School on both Facebook and Twitter. Search for us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@HoldrumMS) for general information, news and events.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank both students and parents for helping Holdrum Middle School start off as successful as we have. Our seventh graders had a great trip to Frost Valley to kick off the school year. The National Junior Honor Society and National Mathematics Junior Honor Society students were inducted in early October; these students have consistently worked hard to achieve this high honor. Our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams and volleyball team have had great seasons so far making us proud on the field. The Holdrum Middle School Student Council President and Officers were elected and sworn in this past month.  And the River Vale Junior Police Academy has started and many of our seventh and eighth students are involved as recruits. It has been an exciting start to our school year and we are looking forward to what is on the horizon.

We are very proud to announce that Holdrum Middle School has become certified as a Future Ready School. Future Ready Certification recognizes school districts who are moving towards preparing students for success in college, careers, and citizenship. Holdrum’s culture of digital innovation coupled with our Portrait of a Graduate have helped to support our students in becoming Future Ready. Our Portrait of a Graduate directly aligns to the Future Ready vision as it emphasizes the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing, interconnected world. It is the goal of River Vale Schools to promote necessary change to support our students and to ensure that they are college and career ready members of society.

Here's to the rest of the 2018-2019 school year!

Yours in Education,

James P. Cody
