Preparations for your child’s arrival to Holdrum Middle School are well underway! We understand that transitioning to middle school holds new academic, social and developmental challenges for our new students. For this reason the HMS faculty and staff have a number of activities in place to ease this process for both you and your child. A number of activities and tasks will be completed by yourself and the middle school staff in the upcoming months. Listed below is a description of each:
Mr. Cody and Mrs. Puzzo Visits to the 5th Grade Classrooms – Early Spring
Mr. Cody and Mrs. Puzzo will visit fifth grade classrooms throughout April and May to share information about course work, student activities and a general overview of middle school procedures with your student. Additionally, Mr. Cody and Mrs. Puzzo will answer questions compiled by 5th graders about Holdrum Middle School and the upcoming school year.
Incoming Sixth Grade Parent Orientation Night – Late Spring
We will conduct an orientation program for our incoming sixth grade parents at Holdrum Middle School. This program will include a short presentation by administration, our nurse, and school counselors. Additionally, our Peer Helpers will conduct building tours.
5th Grade Students Visit to HMS – June
In June our fifth graders will visit HMS with their teachers. They will have an opportunity to meet some of their future teachers, coaches, guidance counselors and the school nurse. Building tours will also be conducted and activities will take place which will help us to get to know your child a little bit better before their arrival.
Holdrum Health Office Requirements:
The Holdrum Health Office has a number of required forms to share with you. Detailed information regarding these forms can be found in a separate letter that was e-blasted from your elementary school principal. These forms can also be found on the HMS website by following this link. Please submit all forms together as a complete packet no later than August 1st to ensure enough time for the district physician to review and approve all paperwork. This deadline is imperative to make sure students are approved to try out for sports, as well as for entry to Holdrum Middle School.
In addition to these completed physical forms, a copy of their immunizations should be attached including the two required listed below for entry into Middle School prior to the start of the school year.
We are looking forward to both your and your child’s participation in the upcoming middle school transition events.
